First Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov is hoping that the speaker of the parliament will be elected on December 4.
Turchynov announced this to journalists.
«We are doing everything to ensure that it happens,» Turchynov said when asked whether it would be possible to elect the speaker of the parliament on Thursday, December 4.
According to him, no political force has thus far agreed to form a parliamentary coalition despite a call from Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
«So far, no political force has confirmed its desire to work under these difficult conditions,» Turchynov said.
He denied reports claiming that Tymoshenko met with the Party of the Regions’ leader Viktor Yanukovych.
Turchynov stressed that the position of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc on election of the speaker of the parliament remains unchanged.
«A speaker cannot be elected without a coalition. There is only one way out: a) a coalition; b) a speaker of the parliament; c) working together in the Cabinet of Ministers... A speaker without a coalition is merely a Humpty Dumpty,» Turchynov said.
According to him, the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc does not support election of the parliament without formation of a parliamentary coalition because the speaker should be elected as the coordinator of adoption of anti-crisis laws and not as a person that will use the parliamentary rostrum for his personal goals.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the parliamentary faction of the Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense bloc has called for election of the speaker of the parliament without formation of a parliamentary coalition.
President Viktor Yuschenko is hoping that the speaker of the parliament will be elected during the plenary week of December 2-5.
The parliament relieved Arsenii Yatseniuk of the post of Parliament Speaker on November 12.
