The State Customs Service has said the Naftohaz Ukrainy national oil and gas company owes UAH 3 billion of VAT on natural gas imported to Ukraine in September through November.
Ukrainian News learned this from the press service of the State Customs Service.
"In the period from September through November 2008, [Naftohaz Ukrainy] has not declared 12.41 billion cubic meters of [imported] natural gas. The national budget has not received UAH 3.065 billion of customs payments (VAT) in such conditions," the statement reads.
According to the statement, Naftohaz Ukrainy imported 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas in November. The national company has transferred to the national budget UAH 5 billion and the national budget has yet to receive UAH 1.071 billion of VAT.
The State Customs Service said the failure of Naftohaz Ukrainy to clear and pay VAT on imported natural gas is one the reasons for the service not to execute the plan of revenues to the national budget in November.
Another reasons, according to the State Customs Service, was reduction in the value of imports in November.
According to the statement, the volume of imports in tons fell by 47% in the period from January through November 2008 over the same period of 2007.
In November , the State Customs Service transferred to the national budget UAH 5.7 billion, including UAH 5.3 billion or 93.4% to the general fund of the national budget.
In the period from January through November, the State Customs Service transferred to the national budget UAH 82.3 billion or 119.6% of the plan.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the State Customs Service said imports fell in October in the wake of the world financial turmoil.
The Cabinet of Ministers has instructed the State Customs Service to perform customs clearance of natural gas only for the Naftohaz Ukrainy national company from March 1, 2008.
