President Viktor Yuschenko has demanded that the Cabinet of Ministers regulate the debts of the Naftohaz Ukrainy national joint-stock company to the RosUkrEnergo company by November 27, the president said this opening the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council.
Yuschenko said that the gas debt is the problem of the government and the Cabinet of Ministers is fully responsible for its tackling.
Yuschenko said that in January-March 1, 2008, the government did not pay for the consumed gas and should respond to its policy.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on November 20, RosUkrEnergo reported the gas debt of Naftohaz Ukrainy to the company of USD 2.4 billion.
Naftohaz Ukrainy said that it owes USD 1.26-1.27 billion to RosUkrEnergo.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that if Ukraine does not repays the USD 2.4 billion debt, direct gas supplies to Ukraine are impossible.
