The Lvivska Ploscha (Lviv Square) arts project was launched at Kyiv's Artists House on November 19.
It was opened by Lviv's popular jazz-rock band The Mandry.
In the 70s past century the band was called just Mandry. In the new century, after reunion, the musicians chose the English-language name to avoid being taken for some other functioning band. The program predominantly consisted of pieces of the Chicago group.
That is why the band had a powerful wind section, including Yevhen Shelest (trumpet), Yevhen Prokip (trombone), Oleh Lahenzevych, and Ihor Trukh (saxophones).
The rhythm section was presented by bass guitar player Orest Smishko, drummer Ihor Lesko, and percussionist Ivan Voschyna. Arkadii Orekhov was the keyboardist. The team managers were also on the stage: art director Markiyan Dribniuk was playing the guitar, and producer Orest Zhukevych was singing. That evening, the group was strengthened with one more Lviv resident, poet, translator, singer and guitarist Viktor Morozov. The Artists House will also hold arts exhibitions, literature parties, concerts of jazz, classic and rock music from Lviv. It is particularly notable that the House is located in Kyiv's Lvivska Square. The next event is a concert within the framework of the remarkable Polish - Ukrainian Jazz Bez festival to be held there on December 14.
