Viacheslav Kyrylenko, leader of the Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense Bloc faction (OU-PSD), leader of the People's Union Our Ukraine Party, has called on the Ukrainian nation to commemorate memory of the 1932-1933 Great Famine (Holodomor) victims.
He made this call at the Verkhovna Rada meeting.
"I am convinced that each honest Ukrainian will light a candle this week, because it is our duty to remember those who were killed during the atrocious famine," he said.
Kyrylenko expressed regret that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will not participate in marking of the 75th anniversary of the Great Famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine.
Kyrylenko considers Russia's reluctance to admit the grounds for recognition of the 1932-1933 Great Famine as genocide against the Ukrainian nation to stem from its unavailability to accept the realias of Ukraine's history.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, seven presidents will pay visits to Ukraine to participate in a number of events marking the 75th Anniversary of Great Famine 1932-1933.
President Viktor Yuschenko declared 2008 the Year of commemoration of the Great Famine.
In compliance with the estimates, the famine took lives of three to seven million people.
