7 Presidents Will Come To Ukraine To Participate In Marking 75th Anniversary Of Great Famine 1932-1933 (19:19, Monday, November 17, 2008)

President of the Republic of Macedonia Branko Crvenkovski, President of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves, President of Poland Lekh Kachinski, President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers, President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus, President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, and Head of Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nebojsa Radmanovic will come to Ukraine to attend events marking the 75th anniversary of the Great Famine (Holodomor) of 1932-1933.

Yurii Kostenko, acting first deputy foreign affairs minister, told this at a briefing.

"The President of the Republic of Macedonia, the President of Estonia, the President of Poland, the President of Latvia, the President of the Republic of Lithuania, the President of Georgia and the President of Bosnia and Herzegovina accepted the invitations to attend those events in Ukraine," he said.

According to him, the consultations on arrival of five delegations headed by Presidents are proceeding.

Kostenko also said that delegations of international organizations, UNESCO, the European Parliament, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) particularly, will also take part in marking the 75th anniversary of the Great Famine.

Kostenko also noted that 14 states and Vatican acknowledged the Great Famine of 1932-1933 to be genocide against the Ukrainian nation.

These are national parliaments of Austria, Hungary, Georgia, Canada, Columbia, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, U.S., Ecuador and Estonia.

Kostenko also said that parliaments of Argentina, Spain, Chile, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic by their decisions paid the tribute to the memory of the victims of the Great Famine of 1932-1933.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, President Viktor Yuschenko declared 2008 the Year of commemoration of the Great Famine.

In compliance with the estimates, the famine took lives of three to seven million people.
