Experts with the Agency for Modeling Situations believe that the increase in political apathy among voters is strengthening the position of Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
The agency stated this in a commentary.
"Supporters of Yuschenko and Yanukovych are not prepared to go to the polls en masse whereas supporters of Tymoshenko and the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc are extremely disciplined today and are prepared to take the most active participation in the election campaign," said the agency's Director Vitalii Bala.
According to Bala, supporters of President Viktor Yuschenko and the Party of the Regions are less politically active as a result of the current political and economic crisis.
"[A supporter] does not understand what is going on at the top and does not perceive the unclear messages that are being sent to him. All this is resulting in a loss of motivation and political apathy," Bala said.
He forecasts that neither Yuschenko nor the Party of the Regions would "pedal" restoration of the election process until these trends change.
"Roles have been exchanged today. Sociology shows that Tymoshenko is not only likely to strengthen her position in case of an election, but also radically change the accent of her communication with the President and the influential groups within the Party of the Regions," Bala said.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Yuschenko dissolved the parliament on October 8 and scheduled early parliamentary elections for December 7.
Yuschenko suspended the decree on dissolution of the parliament on October 20.
Yuschenko intends to determine the date of the early parliamentary elections after the parliament allocates the money needed to finance them.
