Parliamentary Deputy Hennadii Moskal of the Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense bloc (OU-PSD) has called on Prosecutor-General Oleksandr Medvedko to investigate the involvement of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the electoral process.

The press service of the People’s Self-Defense public movement announced this in a statement.

Moskal sent to Medvedko an official request in which he stressed that the SBU was violating the law entitled «On the Security Service of Ukraine» by getting involved in the electoral process and the preparation for early parliamentary elections.

Moskal stressed that the use of officers from the SBU and the Alfa special unit to guard judges of the Administrative Appeal Court of Kyiv, members of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), and other participants in the electoral process violated Section 9 of Article 24 of the Law on the Security Service of Ukraine.

According to Moskal, this law stipulates that the SBU is obliged to ensure the personal security of citizens and people participating in criminal legal proceedings.

He stressed that judges of the administrative court, members of the CEC, and other participants in the electoral process are not involved in criminal proceedings.

Moreover, Moskal called on the leadership of the SBU to refrain from politicizing the SBU and illegally involving it in the electoral process.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the SBU has assigned guards to the CEC’s Chairman Volodymyr Shapoval and members of the commission at their request.

The State Guard Department’s head Valerii Heletei has alleged that six parliamentary deputies belonging to the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc beat up six employees of the State Guard Department in the CEC building on Tuesday.

Parliamentary Deputy Andrii Kozhemiakin, who is the deputy leader of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc’s parliamentary faction, has alleged that officers from the Security Service of Ukraine’s Alfa special unit beat up four of the bloc’s parliamentary deputies in the CEC building.
