The National Bank of Ukraine has warned commercial banks that it is unacceptable to impose restrictions on the servicing of payment cards issued by other banks, including Prominvestbank, where a temporary administration was installed on October 7, at their ATMs.

The NBU's Deputy Chairman Volodymyr Krotiuk, who is the temporary administrator of Prominvestbank, announced this in a statement.

"The National Bank of Ukraine is drawing the attention of the Ukrainian banks that are members of international payment systems to the unacceptability of imposition of restrictions on the servicing of payment cards issued by other Ukrainian banks," the statement says.

Krotiuk stressed that Prominvestbank is fulfilling all its current obligations regarding settlements with payment systems promptly and in full as well as in accordance with the operating rules of international payment systems.

Moreover, according to Krotiuk, Prominvestbank has increased the size of its security deposit in order to guarantee mutual settlements in accordance with the requirements of international payment systems.

Krotiuk did not say whether Prominvestbank significantly increased the size of its security deposit.

At the same time, Krotiuk stressed that imposition of restrictions on ATM servicing of payment cards issued by other banks would not only violate the rules of international payment systems, but also cause panic among clients of all Ukrainian banks.

Krotiuk called on financial institutions to abandon the practice of imposing such restrictions.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the National Bank of Ukraine appointed a temporary administration to run Prominvestbank on October 7 and appointed Krotiuk as the bank's temporary administrator.

Several Ukrainian banks have announced restrictions on the servicing of payment cards issued by Prominvestbank at their ATMs.
