Ex-head of the monitoring committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for Ukraine, adviser to the Ukrainian prime minister Hanne Severinsen says she was disappointed with the calling of early Verkhovna Rada (parliament) elections in Ukraine.

Ukrainian News learned this from the liaison department of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Severinsen said she visited Ukraine for 14 consecutive years as a representative of the Council of Europe, and having returned again, she was quite disappointed that vital reforms were not conducted because of a new snap election.

On top she noted that it is necessary to prevent conflicts between the country leaders.

Severinsen says she was sorry to see that right after appointment of the Ukrainian prime minister, the president started impeding her activity, and conflicts like this should be prevented in the future.

She expressed confidence that Ukrainian leaders should focus on settlement of economic crisis problems.

Ukraine was very close to getting the perspective of European Union membership, Severinsen said adding if political forces in Ukraine reach a consensus, Ukraine’s European integration would be much more successful.

She also says a snap election is rather expensive to Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News reported, President Viktor Yuschenko disbanded the parliament and appointed early parliamentary elections for December 7.

On April 9, the Cabinet of Ministers called Severinsen the prime minister’s adviser on a voluntary basis.
