The National Bank of Ukraine’s Deputy Chairman Volodymyr Krotiuk, who is the temporary administrator of Prominvestbank, one of the largest banks in Ukraine, has said that the bank may seek a strategic investor.

Krotiuk was speaking to journalists.

«Negotiations are being held. As far as I know, with several potential investors,» Krotiuk said.

Krotiuk said that one of the potential investors was a Russian company, which he did not name.

Krotiuk added that the strategic investor would have to ensure adequacy of Prominvestbank’s regulatory capital and inject funds into the bank in the form of deposits and a subordinated loan for supporting the bank.

According to Krotiuk, the shareholders of the bank presently have the opportunity to sell about 80% of the shares in the bank (8-10 resident individuals own about 80% of the shares in the bank).

Krotiuk also said that Prominvestbank has a good loan portfolio and that only 1.5-1.7% of the loans in the portfolio are overdue.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the National Bank of Ukraine appointed a temporary administration to run Prominvestbank on October 7.

Before then, Prominvestbank had repeatedly said that corporate raiders were launching attacks on it with the aim of forcing its current owners to sell it.

The National Bank of Ukraine allocated a total of UAH 5 billion in late September for supporting Prominvestbank’s liquidity.
