President Viktor Yuschenko has instructed regional governors to ensure proper organization of early parliamentary elections.

The presidential press service announced this in a statement.

«We are all responsible for normal organization of the elections, including ensuring logistical and organizational work,» Yuschenko said at a meeting with regional governors.

Yuschenko stressed that although the ordering of early parliamentary elections was a radical step, it is a constitutional and democratic method of resolving a crisis.

Yuschenko described efforts by the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc to block the electoral process as an irresponsible step and said that the bloc’s real treason for blocking the process was its fear of contesting the elections.

«I request that you do not give in to provocation. Your mission as the presidential team, my team, is to maintain control of the situation in the region placed entrusted to you,» Yuschenko told the governors.

He also called on the governors to coordinate their work, work as a team, and recognize the special responsibility placed on them at this moment.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Yuschenko dissolved the parliament on October 8 and scheduled early parliamentary elections for December 7.
