Parliamentary Deputy Oleksandr Yefremov, who is the first deputy leader of the parliamentary faction of the Party of the Regions and the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Regulations, believes that the sixth parliament retains its powers until early parliamentary elections are held and deputies of the seventh parliament are sworn in.
Yefremov announced this to journalists.
"According to Article 90 of the Constitution, its first paragraph [provides] an opportunity to work all that time," Yefremov said.
According to him, the first paragraph of the Constitution's Article 90 stipulates that the powers of a parliament terminates from the moment that deputies of a new parliament swear the parliamentary oath.
Moreover, Yefremov stressed that the Party of the Regions was prepared to agree an agenda and work in a plenary sessions in order to adopt necessary laws during the election campaign.
Yefremov also expressed the belief that the first issue that the parliament should consider is protection of depositors with Ukrainian banks.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Yuschenko dissolved the parliament on October 8 and scheduled early parliamentary elections for December 7.
