The Lviv regional chapter of the Narodnyi Rukh of Ukraine party is opposed to a union with the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko.
Ukrainian News learned this from the press service of the Our Ukraine People’s Self-Defense Bloc.
The chapter is alarmed that the NRU heads are trying to create a political union with the BYT following the call of the early parliamentary elections.
The chapter considered the current situation at its October 5 special conference and passed a statement saying that a union with the BYT is not acceptable for the NRU.
«A union with the political force manifesting left-wing ideology, full of people from the half-criminal oligarchic clans, the political force that votes and passes decisions in unison with the Communist Party, the Party of Regions and the Progressive Socialist Party in the parliament and in many regional and district councils, decisions that by no means can be considered good for the state - is absolutely unacceptable for the NRU,» the statement reads.
The Lviv chapter said that the party heads are now trying to push the NRU into deciding on a union with the BYT at the next congress.
«In order to persuade the regional chapters into supporting this idea, they have employed a full arsenal of means such as money, promises of upper places on the list, defamation of those who resist the annihilation of the Rukh. To all appearances, the NRU leaders, having forgotten about their ideological and platform principles, need a guarantee to secure deputy mandates for themselves at the next parliamentary elections,» the chapter reported.
The NRU chapter said that because of the push for a union with the BYT, Narodnyi Rukh of Ukraine leader Borys Tarasiuk described as dissident the actions of the regional chapters in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil, who did not support the policy of the NRU leadership.
The chapter said that it continues to support President Viktor Yuschenko.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the NRU and four other parties from the Our Ukraine People’s Self-Defense Bloc think that early parliamentary elections are a mistake.
