People and Kyiv region are holding a rally near the UNIAN information agency to protect against the operation of the Ahromars Complex poultry company [Havrylivski Kurchata trade mark] in Havrylivka, Kyiv region.

The protestors accuse Ahromars Complex of unauthorized construction of poultry complexes in violation of resolutions of the Lytvynskyi village council.

People of Lytvynivka, Lisovychy, and Mykolaivka have sent an open letter to Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko with a request prevent the construction, as the facilities will be built on the lands belonging to the communities of the villages.

Earlier, 150 people of Vyshhorod district, Kyiv region, and representatives of NGO's held a rally outside the Cabinet of Ministers in protest against environment pollution by Ahromars Complex and demand that the government should suspend the operation of the poultry company.

People of Kyiv region and some 10 NGO's signed a resolution advocating the creation of a governmental ad hoc team to check how the company observes the ecological legislation.

The resolution was addressed to President Viktor Yuschenko, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Raisa Bohatyriova, Prosecutor General Oleksandr Medvedko, Interior Minister Yurii Lutsenko, and Kyiv Regional Governor Vira Ulianchenko.

The protestors wanted the government to suspend operation of Ahromars Complex until the end of violations of the ecological legislation and consequences of the pollution of territories by by Ahromars Complex are treated.

They also want officials guilty of violations of the ecological legislation to be punished.

Earlier, Ahromars Complex denied polluting environment.

Company Director Oleksii Marchenko said the company had performed a number of practical measures since 2006 to minimize effects of the poultry breeding processes on the environment.

According to the company, it has invested UAH 50 million in the protection of environment.

Marchenko said the company never ended work on the reduction in the industrial effects on the environment.

According to the company, all poultry wastes are used by seven plants of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy producing meat-and-bone powder.

Marchenko further said there were also political reasons for the accusations against the company.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Ahromars Complex, which is a closed joint-stock company founded in 1998, has a full production cycle - from egg incubation to raising chicks to full processing of poultry meat.
