European Party Intends To Hold Consultations On Blocking With Other Political Forces For Possible Snap Parliamentary Elections (16:58, Wednesday, October 8, 2008)

The European Party intends to hold consultations on blocking with other political forces for possible snap parliamentary elections.

The party leader Mykola Katerynchuk has told this journalists at the Cabinet of Ministers house.

"The European Party of Ukraine has decided to consult other political forces than the Party of Regions, the Socialist Party, the Communist Party and the Socialist-Democratic Party (united) on blocking, as we have potential for an independent ballot and we proved to be able in Kyiv, but we haven't proper finance, because we're not an oligarch party and we have no financial-industrial groups to fund so expensive elections," he says.

He added that the party will start consultations as soon as President Viktor Yuschenko issues the decree on dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada.

In Katerynchuk's opinion, this decree will appear either on Wednesday evening or on Thursday, October 9.

At the same time he sees no sense in early elections to the Rada.

"These elections would result in nothing. They won’t change the parliament configuration. I'm confident that they play their ambitions linked with the beginning of the presidential campaign in the country," he stressed.

Katerynchuk added that in the environment of the global financial crisis authorities must consolidate around averting its aftermath for Ukraine and not destabilize the situation in the country.

Apart from Katerynchuk, parliamentary deputies of the Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense bloc faction Volodymyr Stretovych, Yurii Karmazin, David Zhvania and Taras Stetskiv went out from the government house.

The deputies did not announce purposes of their visit to the Cabinet.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, after the morning consultations between the president and the Rada leadership, leader of the Communist Party of Ukraine Petro Symonenko announced President Viktor Yuschenko's demand that the Verkhovna Rada should amend the 2008 national budget, so as to fund the early elections to the Verkhovna Rada.

According to Symonenko, after this Yuschenko will decide whether to call snap elections or not.

The Verkhovna Rada intends to consider at its session a series of draft laws on the procedure of holding and financing of snap parliamentary elections only after the decree on early termination of its power is published.
