NBU Council head Petro Poroshenko has said it is possible that the Private Deposit Guarantee Fund will increase guaranteed compensations to depositors of liquidated banks from UAH 50,000 to UAH 100,000.
He made this statement to the press.
«The sum may be doubled to UAH 100,000,» Poroshenko said.
The NBU Council recommends that the Private Deposit Guarantee Fund calculate the possible increase for a final solution.
The best way is to regulate this issue legislatively, Poroshenko continued, but if the Verkhovna Rada rejects this move, the NBU and the Private Deposit Guarantee Fund are ready to settle it independently.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Private Deposit Guarantee Fund was created in February 1999 as a specialized government agency to perform regulatory functions in the area of guaranteeing private deposits.
The administrative board of the Fund decided on August 14, 2007 to increase the amount of compensations paid to depositors of banks being liquidated from UAH 25,000 to UAH 50,000.
This decision came into force on September 11, 2007.
