Kharkiv regional council elected Serhii Chernov, member of the Party of Regions faction, as its chairman instead of Vasyl Salyhin at its extraordinary session on October 7.
This was announced by Volodymyr Zorchenko, chairman of the accounting board.
According to him, 120 deputies voted for Chernov’s nomination.
47-year-old Chernov held the post the regional council’s deputy chairman.
Vasyl Salyhin, former chairman of the regional council, has congratulated Chernov on his election.
Before voting, factions of the People's Union - Our Ukraine Party, the Communist Party, Veche Party and Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc said they would back Chernov’s candidacy.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on Tuesday, October 7, Kharkiv regional council dismissed Vasyl Salyhin from his post of the chairman.
On September 30, the Party of Regions faction in Kharkiv regional council decided to dismiss its member, Vasyl Salyhin, from his post of the regional council’s chairman.
The faction made a decision to raise the issue at the extraordinary session.
Kharkiv regional council has 150 deputies, including 64 members of the Party of Regions faction.
The population of Kharkiv region is 2.83 million people; the total territory is 31,400 square meters.
