Lviv Regional Council Asking PGO To Check For Lviv Mayor Sadovyi's Protracting Preparations For EURO 2012 (18:52, Tuesday, October 7, 2008)

On October 7, Lviv regional council requested the Prosecutor-General’s Office (PGO) to check for the fact of Lviv mayor Andrii Sadovyi's protracting with the preparations for the European Football Championship 2012, co-hosted by Ukraine and Poland.

This follows from a resolution Lviv regional council passed at its session on October 7.

According to the resolution, Lviv regional council is asking the PGO to check for the facts of Lviv mayor Sadovyi abusing his official position to forcedly delay the preparations for the EURO 2012, ascertain legality of the contract for performance of design works, Lviv municipal council executive bodies signed with Alpine Bau (Austria), and also check the project management for compliance with the Ukrainian legislation.

Also Lviv regional council is calling on Lviv municipal council deputies to raise at its next session the question of appropriateness of Sadovyi's occupying the post of Lviv mayor.

This decision was supported by 63 deputies, while 61 votes were required.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the EURO 2012 steering committee urged Lviv to sign the general contract on construction of a stadium by September 10.

In August, Lviv launched preparatory works on construction of a stadium at Stryiska-Kiltseva Street for the EURO 2012.

Lviv municipal council has granted UAH 80 million for construction of the stadium for the EURO 2012 in 2008.

On February 6, Alpine Bau, Austria won the tender for construction of the stadium in Lviv.

On May 21, Lviv town-planning board approved the sketch project of Alpine Bau, which envisages construction of the stadium designed for 33,400 seats on the area of 3 hectares, and also of a parking ground for 1,593 cars.

The construction is estimated at EUR 85 million.
