OU-PSD Waits For Invitation From Tymoshenko Bloc To Continue Coalition Talks (16:35, Tuesday, October 7, 2008)

The Our Ukraine People’s Self-Defense Bloc faction in the Verkhovna Rada is waiting for invitation from the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko faction to continue talks about a new coalition.

OU-PSD faction deputy chairman Roman Zvarych made this statement to the press.

«If there is a desire inside the BYT to continue these talks, they should show this initiative,» he said.

Zvarych said it will be ridiculous if the OU-PSD initiate these consultations, because his faction has fewer deputies than the BYT.

In his opinion, the faction occupying the majority of seats in the Verkhovna Rada, that is the BYT, should initiate coalition talks.

The deputy added that during a telephone conversation with BYT faction chairman Ivan Kyrylenko on October 6, he heard a proposal to consider the candidacy of Volodymyr Lytvyn, the leader of the eponymous faction in the Verkhovna Rada, for the speaker’s post.

«I understood from it that the only obstacle on the way of Lytvyn Bloc joining the negotiating algorithm is our promise that he [Lytvyn] will become the speaker,» Zvarych commented.

He noted that this proposal cannot be accepted by the OU-PSD.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who leads the eponymous bloc, asked President Viktor Yuschenko to facilitate restoration of the BYT - OU-PSD coalition or building of a coalition between the BYT, OU-PSD and the Bloc of Lytvyn.

OU-PSD faction member Anatolii Hrytsenko said Yuschenko will dissolve parliament if no coalition is formed by the end of Tuesday.

Roman Zvarych denied that Yuschenko has such intention.

On October 6, Yuschenko decided to give the factions a few days for building a coalition.
