The Federation of Metallurgists, sectoral associations and heads of steelmaking enterprise have addressed President Viktor Yuschenko, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, and the Verkhovna Rada asking to take measures for driving the sector out of crisis.
This follows from the address, the text of which Ukrainian News has obtained.
The address says that it is necessary to suspend the cargo transportation tariffs, the Transport and Communications Ministry raised from 1 October, to introduce moratorium on raising prices for fuel and energy sources from October and until the yearend, also until the yearend to introduce zero VAT on natural gas and electric energy, to analyze through the system of formation of price policy for iron ore produced in Ukraine taking into consideration the methods of forming prices at the global market, make amendments to the law "On taxation of enterprises' incomes" and to the law "On protection of the environment" in the part of redistributing the funds generated by pollution fees.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Metalurhprom, the association of metallurgical plants, at its meeting on 6 October in Dnipropetrovsk said the situation in the industry was critical.
The head of the Federation of Metallurgists and director general of Metalurhprom Vasyl Kharakhulakh said that the reduction in prices and absence of the demand for Ukrainian steel products trimmed the production volume by 19% in August and resulted in closure of a number of steelmakers' blast furnaces.
Participating in the meeting were representatives of the Industrial Policy Ministry, the Economy Ministry, the Transport and Communications Ministry, heads of metal companies, directors general of Metalurhprom, Ukrkoks association, Ukrtrubprom, Ukrmetiz, Ukrrudprom, Ukrvohneupor, Tsvetmet, and leaders of trade unions.
