Ukrainian Interior Minister Yurii Lutsenko has said he is aware of a plan of organizing provocative actions in Crimea against the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
He said this in an interview with the Zerkalo Tyzhnia newspaper.
"I am aware of the existence of a plan of destabilization of the situation in Crimea, which has a code name '300 Spartans.' It has been drawn up by an adviser of the Secretariat of President [Viktor Yuschenko] and provides for organization of provocative actions against the [Russian] Black Sea Fleet," Lutsenko said.
Lutsenko said those [provocative] actions could lead to serious negative consequences for the [Ukrainian] state.
He said the Ministry of Interior Affairs was closely following the situation in Crimea and working on instruments to prevent provocative actions.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry's Ambassador-at-large Vladimir Dorokhin said Ukraine's position on the Russian Black Sea Fleet affected the bilateral relations.
Moscow says Kyiv should agree with Russia all decisions concerning the terms of basing of the Russian Black Sea fleet in Ukraine.
Ukraine insists on the speediest completion of elaboration and signing of a bilateral agreement on activities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet deployed in Ukraine in case of crisis situations.
On August 13, President Yuschenko endorsed an order for border crossing by militaries, ships, and planes of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Yuschenko also endorsed rules for coordination with Ukraine of movement of elements of the Russian Black Sea Fleet outside their bases in Crimea.
