Shevchenkivskyi district council has decided to hold November 16 local referendum proposing to district inhabitants to decide whether they support the idea of district liquidation.
Ukrainian News learned this from the press service of the Shevchenkivskyi district council.
"On October 2 deputies of the Shevchenkivskyi district council in Kyiv decided to ask the district population what they think about the intention of the city authorities to liquidate the district and scheduled local district referendum for November 16," the statement reads.
The district council promises to take into account inhabitants' opinion in their work.
Viktor Pylypyshyn, chairman of the Shevchenskivskyi district administration, commented on the decision and said that he hadn't heard so far any founded claim to the work of the district.
"Presently the district has a peak budget amounting to over UAH 820 million, every fifth hryvnia in the city budget is provided by our district," the press service quoted Pylypyshyn as saying.
Pylypyshyn emphasized that due to this they decided to ask inhabitants themselves to estimate the work of district authorities.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetskyi considers that city referendum as to reorganization of 10 districts into five in the capital is unnecessary.
Earlier he has suggested that Kyiv city council reorganize 10 districts into five, creating Darnytskyi, Desnianskyi, Obolonskyi, Pecherskyi, and Solomiyanskyi districts and liquidating Dniprovskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Podilskyi, Holosiivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts.
Kyiv city mayor Leonid Chernovetskyi explains reorganization of ten city districts into five with fight against corruption.
But Kyiv city council commission on local administration, regional, international ties and information policy refused to consider the issue on reorganization of ten city districts into five.
