The European Party intends to contest early parliamentary elections independently if such elections are scheduled.
The press service of the party announced this in a statement.
According to the statement, the council of the party made a decision to this effect at a meeting on Monday.
"If the President has the legal grounds to dissolve the parliament and exercises his constitutional right, our party will be inclined to make a decision to participate in the election campaign on its own," the press service quoted Parliamentary Deputy Mykola Katerynchuk of the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense bloc (OU-PSD), who is the leader of the European Party, as saying.
At the same time, the party's council decided that it was necessary to preserve the coalition formed by the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense bloc and the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc.
Katerynchuk also said that the European Party considered it inappropriate to hold early elections every year and that the party was calling for organization of a roundtable to discuss a way out of the current situation in the country.
The party's council also decided that it is necessary to hold talks with all the political forces in the democratic camp on the possible format for their participation in possible early elections.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, experts believe that the probability of early parliamentary elections is high.
President Viktor Yuschenko said on September 3 that he intended to dissolve the parliament if a new parliamentary coalition was not created within the period established by legislation.
The parliamentary faction of the OU-PSD decided on September 2 to withdraw from the parliamentary coalition.
The decision to withdraw from the coalition was approved by 39 of the 72 deputies belonging to the parliamentary faction of the OU-PSD.
The European Party is a member of the OU-PSD.
