Minister of Foreign Affairs Volodymyr Ohryzko thinks it is possible that the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko and the Our Ukraine People’s Self-Defense Bloc will remain a coalition.
He said this in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.
«Now we are living through an uneasy period, but I believe that we are at a lethal stage already. If the two sides take national interests as a guideline for their activities, the coalition will survive,» the minister said.
To stay together, the BYT and the OU-PSD have to elaborate common position on the conflict in Georgia.
Also, the BYT must adhere to the coalition agreement, Ohryzko noted.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko calls on President Viktor Yuschenko to help the BYT - OU-PSD remain a coalition.
Yuschenko said on September 5 he was confident the political crisis in this country could be resolved through talks between the political forces.
In order to resume negotiations between the factions, the Ukrainian authorities have to take a coordinated stance towards the situation in Georgia and cancel all, according to him, unconstitutional laws the Verkhovna Rada adopted after September 2, he said.
Tymoshenko said that Yuschenko was dictating his conditions for safety of the coalition of the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko and the Our Ukraine People's Self-Defense Bloc thinking about the next presidential elections.
