Chairman of the Lytvyn Bloc faction at the Verkhovna Rada, Volodymyr Lytvyn, has doubts that the early parliamentary and presidential elections will be held simultaneously.
He told this to the Fifth TV Channel in the evening September 4.
«It is quite obvious that this is just a method to threaten, as they [the Party of Regions and the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc] won’t agree with holding the elections simultaneously, as the early elections will entail considerable scattering of attention and forces. They want to provide control at the parliament and occupy the highest post in the country: the position of the president,» he said.
According to Lytvyn, it would be logic for the Party of Regions and the BYT to hold early Verkhovna Rada elections at first and only then run for the presidential post.
At the same time, Lytvyn said that none of these political forces are interested in early Verkhovna Rada elections.
He said that by the end of the 30-day term envisaged by the Constitution and allowing the president to disband the parliament, they will create the coalition.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, chairman of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc faction Ivan Kyrylenko calls for simultaneous early Verkhovna Rada elections and presidential elections in December 2008.
On September 3, President Viktor Yuschenko announced his intention to dissolute the Verkhovna Rada in case new coalition is not created within constitutional terms.
On September 2, the parliamentary faction of the OU-PSD decided to quit the coalition.
