The faction of the Communist Party of Ukraine in the parliament wants the Verkhovna Rada to recognize independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
Communist Party of Ukraine Leader Petro Symonenko told this to the press.
"We have submitted a draft law concerning the recognition of independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia," he said.
He said the CPU was guided by the principles of the right of nations to sovereignty and independence.
He said the party had submitted the draft law to the Verkhovna Rada earlier this week.
Symonenko said he would insist during the meeting of the conciliatory council of the parliament on September 1 on consideration of the situation in Georgia as the first question of the plenary session meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on September 2.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, President Viktor Yuschenko said that Russia's decision to recognize the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia was unacceptable to Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry condemned Russia's decision to recognize the independence of the provinces and called on it to reverse the decision.
On August 26, Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree that recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and called on other countries to follow Russia's example.
On August 14, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Arsenii Yatseniuk requested the factions of the parliament to give their positions on the situation in Georgia, so as to endorse a consolidated resolution of the Rada.
