Cabinet Directs Emergency And Energy Ministries To Take Measures To Alleviate Aftermath Of Bad Weather In Six Regions (15:24, Thursday, July 24, 2008)

The Cabinet of Ministers has directed the Emergency Situations Ministry and the Fuel and Energy Ministry to take measures to alleviate the aftermath of bad weather in six regions of Ukraine.

The Cabinet of Ministers secretariat's department of media relations announced this in a statement.

Moreover, the Cabinet of Ministers directed the Agricultural Policy Ministry to study the losses incurred by agricultural enterprises in these regions and provide the necessary assistance to them.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, bad weather (heavy rains and winds gusting at up to 20 meters per second) triggered automatic safety mechanisms in the power grid during the night between July 23 and 24, cutting electricity supplies to 212 population centers in six regions.

Specifically, bad weather cut electricity supplies to 128 population centers in Rivne region, 24 in Odesa region, 21 in Khmelnytskyi region, 10 in Mykolaiv region, and one in Volyn region.
