The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchy is urging Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I to coordinate with it all his initiatives on overcoming of the church split in Ukraine.
Ukrainian News learned this from an appeal of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchy to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I.
"Our position is that all initiatives concerning the ways to overcoming of the church split in Ukraine must be agreed with our Church," the appeal reads.
The Holy Synod is confident that the Ukrainian Orthodox church is able to resolve problems on its own.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchy believes that assistance from other local churches cannot turn into interference with the domestic affairs.
The Holy Synod cautions against hasty actions, as they may entail not only aggravation of the confrontation in Ukraine, but also pose a threat to the unity of the Ecumenical Orthodox Church.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Ukrainian People's Party asked Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I to facilitate the merger of Ukrainian Orthodox churches into a united local Ukrainian church.
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I will participate in the events marking the 1020th anniversary of the conversion of Kyiv Rus into Christianity late in July on invitation from President Viktor Yuschenko.
Representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Autocephalous Church and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchy are not intending to take part in the events, in which Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I will take part.
