Kharkiv city mayor Mykhailo Dobkyn has said that there are no grounds for forceful detention of Kharkiv city council secretary Hennadii Kernes.
He told this to the press.
Dobkyn said that Kernes was detained in connection with the criminal case upon possible attack on Kernes, his son and Dobkyn's lives.
At the same time, he said that the secretary of Kharkiv city council had attended questionings 10 times.
Besides, Dobkyn said that Internal Affairs Ministry investigator was authorized to give special instructions to the investigative department of the Internal Affairs Ministry in Kharkiv region, which would allow questioning Kernes in Kharkiv and sending materials to Kyiv.
Dobkyn considers that forceful brining Kernes to questioning is illegal.
He said that he had also been summoned by Kyiv ministry investigator to give testimony.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on Wednesday, Kernes said that he is targeted in the investigation into the case.
Policemen intend to question Kernes in connection with the case upon organization of the attempted murder, and other three cases.
On December 6, 2007, Kharkiv region prosecutor's office opened a criminal case against Kharkiv resident upon attempted murder of Kernes.
