Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said that at the meeting with Gazprom board chairman Aleksey Miller on July 22, they agreed to exclude mediators in gas supplies to Ukraine.
The prime minister said opening Wednesday meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
"Yesterday, we thoroughly discussed these issues and agreed to eventually get rid of the old Ukrainian model. I think we will be able to set up transparent and clear relations with Gazprom during the next few months," Tymoshenko said.
She also pointed to mutual understanding between Gazprom and Ukraine in all aspects of gas relations.
"We reached mutual understanding in all issues we discussed," the prime minister said.
She noted positive tendency in gas pumping into the underground gas storage facilities.
Tymoshenko said that Naftohaz Ukrainy has already pumped about 8 billion cubic meters of gas and by the beginning of the 2008-2009 heating season, Naftohaz Ukrainy will have 14.5-15 billion cubic meters of domestic gas.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Tymoshenko forecasts that gas prices for Ukraine will be fixed after Gazprom agrees with Middle Asian countries on gas purchase.
Ukraine intends to exclude mediators in gas supplies from 2009.
On March 12, Naftohaz Ukrainy and Gazprom signed the agreement "On development of gas relations."
The agreement envisages that both Gazprom and RosUkrEnergo can supply gas to Ukraine.
Later, the Cabinet of Ministers endorsed the agreement with amendments, one of which preserves Gazprom as the only gas supplier and total exclusion of RosUkrEnergo.
Currently, the gas is supplied by RosUkrEnergo.
50% stake in the enterprise belongs to Gazprom; 45% to Ukrainian Dmytro Firtash and 5% to another Ukrainian businessman Ivan Fursin.
