Party Of Regions Urges Tymoshenko To Sack Lutsenko (14:44, Wednesday, July 23, 2008)

The Party of Regions is urging Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to immediately send a submission on dismissal of Interior Minister Yurii Lutsenko to the Verkhovna Rada.

Ukrainian News learned this from the press service of the Party of Regions.

"The Party of Regions demands that Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko of Ukraine immediately make a submission on sacking Interior Minister Yurii Lutsenko," the statement reads.

The Party of Regions says Lutsenko violated the laws, the Constitution, and human rights during the arrest of Kharkiv City Council Secretary Hennadii Kernes on July 22.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, police on July 22 arrested Kharkiv city council secretary Hennadii Kernes for receiving his testimony in a murder case.

Interior Minister Lutsenko said Kernes would be released from custody by July 23.

The Party of Regions said Lutsenko was settling accounts in arresting Kernes.

Kernes says his arrest on July 22 accounted for a desire of Lutsenko to settle accounts with him.
