Man Hospitalized In Kyiv After Attempt To Commit Suicide In Klovska Subway Station (14:05, Friday, July 18, 2008)

A man on July 18 made an attempt to commit a suicide under a subway train at Klovska station in Kyiv.

Nadia Shumak, the head of the press service of the municipal subway company Kyivskyi Metropoliten, told this to Ukrainian News.

According to the subway train driver, he saw the man jump on the rails when the train was arriving.

Police and doctors arrived and took the man from under the train.

The man has been hospitalized.

Police are investigating the incident.

The suicide attempt suspended the traffic on the line from 11:59 to 12:21.

Shumak said the subway train driver was in a state of shock.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, there have been six attempts to commit suicide in the Kyiv subway in 2008. Three suicides have died.

Kyivskyi Metropoliten was opened in 1960.

It consists of three lines with the total length of 65 kilometers.

It has 45 subway stations.

The passenger capacity of Kyiv subway is about 2.2 million people a day.
