NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer says a more active dialogue between North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Ukraine is important in the context of the Ukrainian application for the NATO Membership Action Plan.
Ukrainian News learned this from the press service of Vice Prime Minister Hryhorii Nemyria, citing his meeting with Scheffer in Brussels.
Nemyria, on his part, assured Scheffer of seriousness of the intentions of the Ukrainian government in the realization of the course for NATO.
As part of his working visit to Brussels, Nemyria took part in a special meeting of the Ukraine-NATO commission at the level of ambassadors at the NATO headquarters.
Nemyria briefed the ambassadors of the NATO member states on a concept, drafted by the government and submitted to President Viktor Yuschenko, of a new effective system of the coordination of the EuroAtlantic integration process.
He also briefed the ambassadors on a state program endorsed by the government for 2008-2011 on informing the Ukrainian people about NATO.
The ambassadors said on their part that Ukraine was making efforts to realize the priority-driven tasks on the way to NATO. They also said it was important to step up efforts in informing the people about the Ukrainian course for the alliance.
The ambassadors of Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Poland said their countries were prepared to cooperate in the information campaign.
Most of ambassadors said it was important to maintain political stability in Ukraine, as stable work of the government and the parliament facilitated required reforms in the country.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Vice Prime Minister Hryhorii Nemyria on July 2 left for Brussels (Belgium) on a two-day working visit to meet with officials of the European Union and NATO.
Scheffer says Ukraine can achieve the joining to the NATO Membership Action Plan.
The NATO summit in Bucharest on April 3 decided to postpone the consideration of the Ukrainian application for the NATO Membership Action Plan until December.
