Fuel and Energy Minister Yurii Prodan denies the possibility of introduction of higher gas rates for the population from July 1.
Ukrainian News learned this from a statement by the Fuel and Energy Ministry, the wording of which was made available to the agency.
"There will be no increase of gas rates for the population from July 1," the statement quoted Prodan as saying.
The statement gives no other details.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Cabinet of Ministers on June 25 passed resolution No.585 recommending that the National Electricity Regulation Commission raise gas prices for population by 8.26-13.3% to UAH 367-1,329 per 1,000 cubic meters beginning from July 1.
The National Electricity Regulation Commission endorses gas prices for the population following recommendations from the Cabinet of Ministers.
Currently, since January 2007, the tariffs for population are differentiated depending on annual consumption and presence gas counters are fixed at the level of 31.5 kopecks - UAH 1.29 per cubic meter.
