Ukraine hopes that obstacles on the way of Ukrainians wishing to visit Europe will be removed with the start of the presidency of France in the European Union.
Ukrainian News learned this from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Ukraine highly estimates the key priorities of the EU development set by the future presidency of France, both from the point of view of their potential influence on subsequent evolution of the EU itself and its relations with third countries," the report reads.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that reconstruction of the 'European defense' and common energy, migration and agricultural policies require close attention.
"In this context, we are considering the current state and prospects of development of Ukraine-EU relations as an outstanding challenge to the French presidency. This concerns first of all the need to achieve a significant progress in talks between Ukraine and the EU about the new enhanced agreement that requires adoption of a number of political decisions," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The ministry added that Ukraine lays big hopes on the potential, experience and creativity of the French presidency, which can make decisive influence on solution of the situation around the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty on reform of the EU.
Ukraine hopes that the presidency of France in the EU in the second half of 2008 will result in formulation of a consensus position of EU member-states regarding the next institutional transformations in the EU and enforcement of a number of important achievements to be made at the Ukraine-EU summit in Evian, France, on September 9 in the context of Ukraine's irreversible movement toward the EU.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, France voiced intention to propose to Ukraine to be partner to the EU countries.
