Tymoshenko, Putin Intend To Sign Long-Term Agreement On Gas Supplies To Ukraine By September 15 (16:05, Monday, June 30, 2008)

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin intend to sign a long-term agreement on gas supplies to Ukraine by September 15.

Premier Tymoshenko announced this live on Studio 1+1 TV channel on June 29.

"We have reached agreement with Vladimir Vladimirovitch through parallel negotiations on joint concept with Central Asian countries to sign strategic agreements not for a year, but for a long run by September 15," Yu. Tymoshenko said.

The premier marked, he is concerned over Russia's intention to raise gas price for Ukraine in a year.

"It [the increase in a year] is absolutely impossible for Ukrainian economy," she underlined.

Yu. Tymoshenko told that in course of talks with the Russian side they reached accord on smooth transition to European prices of gas.

"I think prices will be raised to the European level in three-four years," she noted.

In general Yu. Tymoshenko positively assesses the progress in gas negotiations with Russia.

As Ukrainian News reported, on Saturday Fuel and Energy Minister Yurii Prodan said Ukraine is not pleased with the price of USD 400 per 1.000 cubic meters for imported gas from 2009.

On June 27, Russia's Gazprom said from 2009 the price of natural gas delivered to Ukraine might exceed USD 400 per 1,000 cubic meters.
