German Ambassador to Ukraine Reinhard Schafers says it is necessary to create conditions for Ukraine's entry in NATO, that would be acceptable to Russia.
He expressed this opinion in a Day newspaper interview.
The ambassador says Russia has no right to veto Ukraine's entry in NATO, but Germany is ready to take into account in a rather large measure the attitude of Russian leadership and people to the very fact of Ukraine's joining the Membership Action Plan.
Both NATO and Ukraine should strive for Ukraine's accession to the Alliance to become more acceptable to Russia, Schafers says.
In his words, Germany is hoping that Ukraine will realize its significance, weight and influence on the general political and regional situation in Europe, and in this connection it will be seriously forming relations with its partners.
The ambassador emphasized that, while entering NATO, Ukraine should help towards general stability and security of all of its European partners, and build up this stability.
As Ukrainian News reported, Schafers denies Russia's influence on Germany in formation of a position on the issue of Ukraine's accession to the NATO Membership Action Plan.
Germany says Ukraine's membership of NATO is inevitable.
