Director general of the World Trade Organization Pascal Lamy has congratulated Ukraine on admission to the organization.

This follows from a statement made by the WTO press service.

"I'm glad to welcome Ukraine as a new member. This is a milestone event for the WTO, as this new membership will strengthen the multilateral trading system," the press service conveys word by Lamy.

WTO director general stressed, the organization will keep simplifying more complete integration of countries in global economy.

As Ukrainian News has reported, on May 16 Ukraine became a full-fledged member of the WTO.

On April 16, Ukraine informed the WTO on ratification of the protocol on accession to the organization.

On February 5, Ukraine and the organization agreed on the accession.

Document on Ukraine's accession to the WTO was signed by Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko and Lamy in Geneva, Switzerland.
