Rada Closes Its Morning Session (15:13, Friday, May 16, 2008)

The parliament has closed its morning session.

Parliament Speaker Arsenii Yatseniuk declared the session closed.

"The plenary session of the parliament is declared happily closed," he said.

Before the session closed, the parliament approved the first reading of draft amendments to the Law on the Customs Tariffs of Ukraine and decided to consider its second reading under a shorter procedure.

Thus, the parliament considered during its morning session the three anti-inflation draft laws that the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc's parliamentary faction insisted upon and because of which its members blocked the parliament's operations.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the parliament rejected on May 16 a draft law that provides for setting a tariff of 10-15% for importation of meat and meat products in 2008.

The parliament also set the maximum trade markup of 15% on foodstuffs of social importance on May 16.

Members of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc's parliamentary faction blocked the parliament's operations from May 13 to 15 because of the parliament's refusal to consider the three anti-inflation draft laws.
