President Viktor Yuschenko calls for political preservation of Crimea as part of Ukrainian territory.
He disclosed this at the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council.
"It is in our national interest to make the territory stable and prosperous. I am sure that we must do our best to assure everybody that it is Ukrainian territory at the political level," Yuschenko said.
He also said that Crimea has always been the territory of political speculations.
The president also said that currently, sociopolitical and socioeconomic situation in Crimea are instable.
He said that the NSDC had already twice taken decision on situation in Crimea and Friday meeting of the council plans to analyze implementation of the decisions.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on May 11, Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov said that Sevastopol has never belonged to Ukraine and the issue of its annexation should be raised.
