The Parliamentary Committee on Administration of Justice wants the parliament to remove the High Business Court's Chief Justice Serhii Demchenko without giving him the option of resigning.
Parliamentary Deputy Serhii Sobolev of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, who is a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Administration of Justice, announced this to journalists.
The committee believes that the parliament should adopt a resolution on termination of Demchenko's powers.
Moreover, the committee noted that the law requires a judge to retire at the age of 65.
Sobolev confirmed the reports that the committee has not received Demchenko's retirement letter.
According to Sobolev, Demchenko automatically loses his post one month after reaching the retirement age if he fails to retire.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Parliamentary Deputy Karmazin of the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense bloc has accused the Supreme Council of Justice of delaying Demchenko's removal from the post of chief justice of the High Business Court.
Demchenko's term as the chief justice of the High Business Court should have expired on February 22 in accordance with the Law on the Status of Judges because he reached the pension age of 65 on that day.
However, Demchenko continues to perform the duties of the chief justice of the High Business Court despite this.
