OU-PSD: BYT Blocking Rada On Confederacy With Party Of Regions Aiming To Amend Constitution (10:01, Wednesday, May 14, 2008)

The Our Ukraine People's Self-Defense Bloc considers that the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc blocks the Verkhovna Rada on confederacy with the Party of Regions aiming to amend the Constitution.

The OU-PSD disclosed this in a statement, text of which Ukrainian News has.

The OU-PSD says that another reason for blocking the Verkhovna Rada may be inability of the current government to battle inflation.

The bloc considers that the BYT is guilty of political conflict, which weakens image of the country and prevents from implementation of strategy of European integration.

At the same time, the OU-PSD calls on the BYT to retain the coalition and launch constructive work.

"We assure Ukrainian people that we will do our best to retain democratic coalition and stability in Ukraine. We address our coalitional partners and ask them to help us in reaching this goal. There is no other way for responsible politicians," the report reads.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on Tuesday, the Verkhovna Rada closed its morning plenary meeting, as the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc blocked the rostrum of the parliament.

The BYT intends to block the Verkhovna Rada, until the latter endorses three anti-inflation laws.

On May 13, President Viktor Yuschenko planned to address the Verkhovna Rada with his annual report on local and external state of Ukraine.

On April 16, the BYT called Yuschenko's actions as threat to Ukraine's independence.
