Ukraine Starts Importing Oil From Belarus (13:58, Tuesday, May 13, 2008)

тат-нафта

Ukraine for the first time in history imported oil from Belarus in April.

Ukrainian News has learned this from the head of the Fuel and Energy Ministry's department for balance of oil, petroleum products, and oil-refining industry Vitalii Horychko.

In April Ukrtatnafta (Kremenchuk Oil Refinery - Poltava region) imported 18,900 tons of Belarusian oil.

Horychko told, he does not know if the crude delivered to Kremenchuk Oil Refinery was mined in Belarus.

Belarus extracts less than 2 million tons of oil a year.

As Ukrainian News reported, in January Ukrtatnafta for the first time imported Iraqi oil.

The refinery had to look for alternative sources of crude after the Russian company Tatneft in mid 2007 stopped supplies of raw materials to the refinery.

The Tatar shareholders of Ukrtatnafta as a result of a corporate conflict lost operative control over the Ukrainian refinery and stopped supplies of crude.

Presently Ukrtatnafta refines on average 230,000-240,000 tons of oil a month, while before the conflict these volumes reached 485,000 tons.
