Odesa's Malinovskyi district police department has opened a criminal case on the murder of Tengiz Karchava, born in Georgia, who is believed to head a criminal grouping.

Olena Melnyk, the press secretary for the Main Department for organized crime at the Ministry of Interior Affairs, told this to Ukrainian News.

The criminal case was opened on article 115 of the Criminal Code, which foresees from seven to 15 years in prison.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on May 10, Tengiz Karchava was murdered in Odesa.

According to a source, Karchava was in a team of mafia boss Antimos.

In September 2007, Karchava was arrested in Zhytomyr region. Police found weapon and drugs with him.

Zhytomyr's Koroliovskyi district court released Karchava from custody on undertaking not to leave the city. He fled soon after.
