Verkhovna Rada Deputy Ihor Kril of the Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense Bloc faction, who is the chairman of the United Center Party, has accused Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the eponymous bloc, of reaching deals with the Party of Regions and the Communist Party of Ukraine on joint steps aiming at introducing amendments to the Constitution.
Ukrainian News learned this from statement by the press service of the United Center Party.
"Since the democratic coalition is not moving forward with any initiative of amending the Constitution providing for parliamentary republic in Ukraine, Tymoshenko means the 'pushing up' of these amendments in other formats of political forces at the Verkhovna Rada [the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko, the Party of Regions, and the Communist Party of Ukraine], in other words she is preparing a constitutional turnover," the press service quoted Kril as saying.
He said deals of this kind would mean violations of the majority coalition agreement with the Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense Bloc by the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko.
"The cynicism lies in the quick re-orientation on former opponents and joining their song by one of the political forces of the ruling coalition - the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko - in violation of the will of voters, the coalition agreement and commitments to its political partners," Kril said.
He further demanded that Tymoshenko would explain her statements concerning the possibility of amendments to the Constitution on the base of the constitutional majority [of over 300 votes, while the coalition has 228 seats at the parliament] next week at the Verkhovna Rada.
"...what she meant by 'consolidated majority' at the Verkhovna Rada, which political forces will make it. Can this date be considered [the start] of a new coalition named 'shadow coalition' of the BYT - the Party of Regions - the Communist Party," he said.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on May 7, Prime Minister Tymoshenko voiced hope that a draft bill on amendments to the Constitution might be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada the following week [May 12 through May 16] and might be supported by what she branded as "constitutional majority of MPs of the Rada."
The Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko is intending to submit a draft bill on amendments to the Constitution.
Earlier, the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko said it was intending to step up the work on the creation at the Verkhovna Rada of a special temporary commission for amendments to the Constitution.
