22,000 Police Officers To Maintain Order In Ukraine During Commemoration Of Victory Day (18:40, Thursday, May 8, 2008)

22,000 police officers will maintain order throughout Ukraine during events commemorating the 63rd anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War on Friday, May 9.

The press service of the Interior Affairs Ministry anniounced this to Ukrainian News.

According to the press service, 4,800 events commemorating the 63rd anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War are planned throughout Ukraine on May 9, and 1.6 million people are expected to participate in the events.

Out of the 22,000 police officers that will maintain order during events, 20,500 will come from the police force and 1,500 from the interior troops.

In Kyiv, 1,500 police officers will maintain order during the commemorative events.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Kyiv municipal administration has decided to organize a march of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, youths, and military orchestras on Khreschatyk Street in commemoration of Victory Day on May 9.

The Defense Ministry intends to organize commemorative fireworks in nine Ukrainian cities on that day.
