The World Bank calls Ukraine for immediate elimination of restrictions on exports of grain, reads the statement of the organization.
"The World Bank today urged Ukraine to proceed with immediate implementation of its announced decision to eliminate restrictions on grain exports," states the message.
The World Bank welcomed Ukraine’s announcement on April 23 that it was lifting all restrictions on grain exports with immediate effect” said Paul Bermingham, World Bank Country Director for Ukraine in a statement.
“We now understand that the new regime rather involves a system of increased quotas and licenses rather than full elimination," he stressed.
The World Bank believes that fully eliminating export restrictions will both stimulate agriculture production in Ukraine, allowing the country to benefit from strong global prices, and will increase the global supply of grains thus helping to alleviate the global food crisis.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, resolution of the Cabinet of April 23 increased export quota by 500,000 tons to 900,000 tons for barley, by 1,000 tons to 1,200 for wheat and its mixtures with rye.
On April 23, Yulia Tymoshenko announced lifting of restriction on grain export.
The Cabinet's Resolution No. 271 of March 28 extended until March 31 quotas for export of grain (200,000 tons), barley (400,000 tons) and rye (3,000 tons).
