Security Service acting Chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko favors the idea of taking the function to fight corruption from the SBU once the Anti-Corruption Bureau is created.
He made this statement to Ukrainian News.
Once the united Anti-Corruption Bureau is created, the main corruption and organization crime department of the SBU must be transferred to the bureau, as a result of which the department will receive clearer functions and an opportunity to work effectively, Nalyvaichenko opined.
"If the bureau is to be created, we will transfer these functions and this is right. This is a state approach. If we create the agency, then one body should fight corruption, not five," he said.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Nalyvaichenko stands for creating a National Investigation Bureau subordinated to the President.
Internal Affairs Minister Yurii Lutsenko forecasts that the National Investigation Bureau will be ineffective without participation of police and the Security Service in it.
President Viktor Yuschenko is going to propose that the Verkhovna Rada create the Anti-Corruption Bureau on May 12-16.
