UN Investigating Death Of Ukrainian Peacekeeper In Kosovo (18:12, Tuesday, May 6, 2008)

The United Nations Organization is investigating the incident that resulted in the death of a Ukrainian peacekeeper in Kosovo.

Ukrainian News learned this from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

An ad hoc group of experts came to Kosovo on April 29 to investigate the March 17 events.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had called on UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to ensure objective and prompt investigation of the events that caused the death of the peacekeeper.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on March 17, one Ukrainian peacekeeper was killed and twenty were injured when militants fired shots at a police post in Kosovo.

The incident occurred during a special operation aimed at freeing a seized territory and a courthouse where the opponents of Kosovo's declaration of independence clashed with the United Nations police.
